H-Boat U.S.A.
This is the page for Bill & Barbara Henry and John Scully and our 1985 H-Boat manufactured by Artekno. John was the second owner of this boat and had owned it for a year before he invited Bill and Barbara sailing. They hit it off as sailing partners and the season of 2000 found John and Bill sailing together a great deal and Barbara (who, by the way, is a more natural sailor than Bill) joined them as often as possible. Toward the end of 2000, John offered Bill a partnership arrangement that he could not refuse (John got tired of Bill dragging him all over New Jersey looking at Tanzers and thought Bill needed some grounding, but not running aground - that is John's domain).
John just loves to get into the boat and sail and doesn't really care much about knowing too much else (of course, John has sailed for over 30 years). Bill has a very inquisitive mind and wants to know everything so he started doing a search on Artekno. This led to meeting some wonderful internet folks in Finland and Denmark however nothing in the U.S. Bill put messages on several sailing bulletin boards looking for other H-Boaters -- no responses. Finally about three weeks ago (June 2001), he stumbled onto the International H-Boat Association web site (which was not working last year) and started emailing everyone who resembled a U.S. address. This web-site is a result of wanting to get people involved in fellowship and the sharing of information.
We are located on the beautiful Jersey Shore, and in particular, sail out of the Monmouth Boat Club which is located on the Navesink River in Red Bank. This club has been in existence since 1879, therefore has a long history of rowing and sailing. When we have lots of time we motor (about 1 hour) to the New York/New Jersey Bay to sail. From the Bay, we can also sail around the tip of Sandy Hook into the Atlantic Ocean.
We can be reached via email: Bill Henry
Following are some photos of our H-Boat primarily from last year. We will update as we go along. Please send me stories and photos and I will create pages for each of us.
Here is our most current photo -- 8-26-01 -- during a bridge race on the Navesink River. We are sailing much better now. We moved from last in our previous race to 9th out of 15 and dropped about 45 minutes off our previous time. Of course we also had better winds, however, these races are keeping our learning curve on a steep rise; I recommend you all race if you want to improve your sailing skills. Barbara is the skipper, our friend Vince is ballast and I'm waving and handling all sail trimming.
